What to Expect for your First Appointment

Intake and Consent Forms: At the first appointment, new clients will sign an informed consent form and complete intake paperwork that outlines any relevant history and goals from Reiki.

In-Person

What Happens in a Session?

Before the session, we will discuss any concerns you may have and then assist you in finding a comfortable position on the table, fully clothed and without shoes or glasses. I will work above your body or lightly place my hands on you, depending on your preference, and continue down the body to where I feel drawn to work and/or where you think would be most relevant. Please feel free to remain silent for the duration of the session, with or without music, or provide feedback throughout. Afterward, I will hold space for you to process your experience, including any physical, mental, or emotional aspects that came up, and share my insights from the session. I will also provide you with information on aftercare.

What Should I Expect to Feel? Working Signs?

Everyone’s personal experience of Reiki, both physically and mentally, is unique, and it is best to approach the experience with an open mind. There is no one right or wrong way to experience Reiki, with some people experiencing little to no noticeable effects at all, while others experience a combination of effects. Some working signs that are often experienced by those receiving Reiki include changes in temperature, muscle relaxation, tingling, vibration, and pain release.

Distance Healing

What Happens in a Session?

Remote sessions follow a similar structure to in-person appointments, starting with a Zoom or phone call (at the client's preference) to review any specific concerns or relevant information. You can then relax in a comfortable position for 30-60 minutes (depending on session length) while I work remotely on energy centers that feel blocked or on areas we previously discussed. Distance Reiki is particularly effective for healing past traumas and manifesting positive energy for future events, as it transcends the bounds of time and space. You may feel similar working signs to those listed above, including warmth, relaxation, and the clearing of energetic blockages. I will let you know when the session is complete, at which point you can take a few minutes to slowly reground in the present and your physical body. I will then hold space to process anything that came up during the session.

After the Session

How Should I Take Care of Myself?

Please get plenty of sleep, rest, drink extra water, and eat a clean diet for 1-2 days after receiving a Reiki treatment. Reiki is a form of self-care, so building upon this healing practice with other types of self-care, such as taking a walk, spending time in nature, listening to music, and practicing breathing exercises, are different ways to enhance and prolong the effects of stress reduction, reconnection, and rebalancing. Journaling about any physical effects of the experience, as well as mental effects such as colors, visualizations, dreams, or shifts in energy levels or mental health symptoms, provides valuable information for future sessions and helps document progress and energetic shifts.

Processing Signs 24-48 Hours Afterward

Detoxification symptoms, also known as healing reactions, may occur within 1-2 days of treatment and include: feeling fatigued, cold or flu-like symptoms, sneezing, coughing, or rumbling in the stomach. Water, rest, and a clean diet, as listed above, are ways to move energy and promote healing following energetic releases and shifts.
